{"id":2500,"date":"2018-01-26T09:52:41","date_gmt":"2018-01-26T15:52:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/french\/?page_id=2500"},"modified":"2023-08-23T08:50:34","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T13:50:34","slug":"french-major","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/french\/french-major\/","title":{"rendered":"French Major"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>In courses for the major, students refine their oral and written French, gain intercultural competence, and develop analytical skills through the study of Francophone contemporary cultures, civilizations, and literature.<\/p>\n<h3>Requirements for the French major:<\/h3>\n<p>Students must take a minimum of\u00a0<strong>eight<\/strong> (8) courses in French above FREN 112, as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Two<\/strong> 250-level courses, at least one of which must be taught by a St. Olaf instructor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two<\/strong> 270-level courses, at least one of which must be taught by a St. Olaf instructor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two<\/strong> 300-level courses, taken on-campus and taught by a St. Olaf instructor<\/li>\n<li><strong>Two<\/strong> additional relevant courses of the student&#8217;s choosing; may include FREN 231, FREN 232 or FREN 235. A maximum of one course with a significant French\/Francophone focus from another department or program on campus is allowed.<\/li>\n<li>Scores of AP 4 or 5 or IB HL 6 or HL 7 may count as one of the electives for the French major.
