{"id":734,"date":"2017-05-03T14:13:33","date_gmt":"2017-05-03T19:13:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/health\/?page_id=734"},"modified":"2025-08-12T16:38:50","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T21:38:50","slug":"things-to-consider-before-arrival","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/health\/things-to-consider-before-arrival","title":{"rendered":"Things To Consider Before Arrival"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p><b>Things to consider before arrival:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Put together a basic self care kit and review how to use it when needed.\u00a0 Suggested basic items:\u00a0 face masks, pain reliever such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen, <strong>inexpensive digital thermometer<\/strong>, various sized band aids, cold or allergy medication, throat lozenges, Tums, tweezers, ice pack, antibiotic ointment, non stick gauze, adhesive tape, insect repellent with DEET, and sunscreen.\u00a0 It is also recommended to bring with you several at-home Covid-19 test kits. Please visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Olaf Infectious Disease website<\/a> for more information about Covid-19.<\/li>\n<li>Consider getting a flu shot before arrival on campus.\u00a0 It\u2019s one less thing you need to think about during the school year.<\/li>\n<li>Check with your health care provider to make sure immunizations are up to date.\u00a0 Get a physical if you are due for one.\u00a0 A physical is not required for matriculation, but is <strong>strongly<\/strong> recommended for all students before arrival on campus.\u00a0 <strong>Having a physical allows your health care provider the opportunity to update any needed immunizations, refill medications, and provide written prescriptions (including ADHD prescriptions), and assess health needs.\u00a0<\/strong> If you have asthma, you should have updated prescriptions and been given an asthma plan.\u00a0 Physicals are not available on campus.<\/li>\n<li>See your dentist for a regular check up at least 6 months prior to coming to school.<\/li>\n<li>If you wear contacts, bring a back up pair of glasses to campus.<\/li>\n<li>Bring a copy of your insurance card or information and keep it in a place you can find it if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Transfer prescriptions to a local pharmacy if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Given that (1) St. Olaf is a highly residential and interconnected community, (2) COVID-19 continues to mutate into new subvariants that remain rather contagious, (3) the proportion of people who are &#8220;up-to-date&#8221; with the COVID-19 vaccine continues to fall across the country, and (4) the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nwss\/rv\/COVID19-national-data.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nwss\/rv\/COVID19-national-data.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1755119868006000&amp;usg=AOvVaw1fFz0kTg7imUfaKbB8JkWA\">current wastewater viral activity level\u00a0<\/a>of SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19) indicates that infections are again rising, the College will continue with <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/covid-19\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the same COVID-19 guidelines<\/a> that were in place last year. Before you return to campus take a few minutes to review these guidelines (which includes mask etiquette, meals while sick, etc.), and please note the following:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">COVID-19 Tests. Bring a supply of COVID-19 tests.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Masks.\u00a0 Bring a supply of well-fitting (N95\/KN95\/KF94) masks.<\/li>\n<li dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">COVID-19 Vaccine.\u00a0 The College strongly recommends that all students and employees receive the updated COVID-19 vaccine when it becomes available in the fall.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Other questions?
