Cancellation Fees and Refunds

SEMESTER/YEAR PROGRAMS:

Cancellation Penalties/Fees
Cancellations of semester and year-long programs must be submitted in writing to International and Off-Campus Studies.

Cancellation fees are charged according to the following schedule:

Semester I and Year-Long Programs

    • On or before June 1: $250
    • Between June 2 and scheduled program departure: Cancellation fees are assessed as necessary and vary depending on program and date of cancellation. In no case is the fee less than $500.
    • After scheduled program departure: no refund

Semester II Programs

    • On or before Nov. 1: $250.
    • Between Nov. 2 and scheduled program departure: Cancellation fees are assessed as necessary and vary depending on program and date of cancellation. In no case is the fee less than $500.
    • After scheduled program departure: no refund

INTERIM PROGRAMS:

Payments

  • Fees will be billed with the fall semester billing in July and will be due August 9.
  • Students applying after July 15 will be billed upon acceptance and payment will be due within approximately three weeks.

Interim Cancellation Penalties/Fees
Cancellations of Interim programs must be submitted in writing to International and Off-Campus Studies at ios@stolaf.edu.

Cancellation fees will be charged according to the following schedule:

On or before June 15: No penalty
Between June 16 and September 15: $100
Between September 16 and October 15: $300
Between October 16 and scheduled departure date: Cancellation fees will be assessed as necessary and will vary depending on the program and date of cancellation.

TERMINATION AND WITHDRAWALS:

Termination from the Program:

Prior to departure: If a student is terminated from the program by St. Olaf College as a result of disciplinary or behavioral problems, fees will be assessed as necessary and will vary depending on the program and date of termination.
After the program has begun: No refunds will be made to students who are terminated from the program as a result of disciplinary or behavioral problems.

Failure to meet prerequisite:
Some off-campus programs have a prerequisite. Students who are enrolled in a course that is a prerequisite for an off-campus program must satisfactorily complete that prerequisite in order to participate in the program. If the student does not satisfactorily complete the prerequisite course, he or she is responsible for all cancellation penalties related to the program.

Medical Withdrawals:
Students who must withdraw from the program (before or after the program has begun) for medical reasons will receive a refund of all recoverable funds. The student must provide a doctor’s statement verifying that the student is medically unable to participate in the program.

Regular Withdrawal: 
Students receive room and board funds which are recoverable. Tuition refunds are not made for regular withdrawals.
