Why is my program cancelled?

  • These reasons vary by program. They include, but are not limited to:
    • Services to issue passports and visas may be delayed.  The U.S. State Department is working through a backlog after only issuing/renewing passports in emergency circumstances this past summer.  Embassies and consulates for many countries may not presently be issuing student visas.  There may be additional challenges for international students with expiring or expired F-1 Student Visas, also due to services being delayed and closed.
    • Online learning is already being planned to start the spring term in the host institution.
    • Concern about the ethics of sending students into communities with already limited resources.
    • Border closures and limited flight availability to and within the host community.
    • Language programs cancelled (Go Konstanz).
    • Partner has cancelled program.

Can I defer to fall 2021 semester?

  • You will need to reapply for the fall 2021 semester on IOS website.
    • Reminder: Applications for 2021-2022 open on October 19, 2020 after the IOS 2021-2022 Off-Campus Study Fair from October 12, 2020 to October 16, 2020.  It is not a guarantee you will be accepted for a 2021-2022 semester, but program advisors will be notified that you were unable to go during the 2020-2021 academic year.  You will need to consider a change in your GPA and updated course plans.
  • You can also speak with Brittan Duffing, IOS advisor for any other alternative options.

I am an international student. What are my next steps?

  • You need to contact Megan Carmes in the Taylor Center.
  • Your situation may vary depending on whether you are in the United States now or abroad at home.

I planned to fulfill a specific degree requirement with my off-campus study program. What are my next steps?

  • Consult with your academic advisor and chair/program director of your major/concentration.   They will have alternative options for you.
