In order for students to see your Moodle site, it must be set as visible. They will not have access to any resources or assignments – even the course homepage! – if you do not have visibility set properly. All St Olaf courses are created with visibility set to Hide. This prevents students from seeing course materials before you’re ready for them to be seen. For students to have access to your course, you must set the course visibility to Show.
Having the correct start date is important too. It determines the start of the first week for a course in weekly format. It also determines the earliest date that logs of course activities are available. You may have already set the course date while learning to adjust basic settings in Moodle, but it is worth double-checking it– for most St Olaf courses the correct start date is set automatically when the course is created, but this can get changed when you restore a course from a previous semester. The following instructions will demonstrate how to change each of these settings.
How do I make my Moodle site visible? What do I do if students can’t see my course?
- Navigate to your course homepage.
- Click on the Gear icon in the upper right and select Edit Settings.
- Scroll to visibility options. Select Show in the Visible menu. If your site is set to Hide, students will not be able to see it, so be sure it is set to Show.
- Scroll to the bottom of the page and select Save.
