The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) maintains its own data clearinghouse, somewhat similar to The National Map‘s professionals page. But the USDA Geospatial Data Gateway (GDG) is set up to make downloading a large amount of data, for example, an entire county, or even a state, relatively easy. Datasets available are, as one might expect from the USDA, geared towards the needs of agriculture and the environment. The GDG maintains a great archive of National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery of multiple years for the entire country (NAIP is often the go-to favorite when aerial imagery is called for, and much– but certainly not all– of what you see on Google Earth in the United States is NAIP). GDG also maintains its own archive of the National Elevation Dataset (NED), but NED data from the USDA has often been reprojected and can be slightly different than the datasets available from the USGS. The GEG also makes soils data available as well. GDG is a good venue when you need orthoimagery and some associated data to go with it.
