RStudio Server Pro at St Olaf

The College maintains an instance of RStudio Server Pro for the use of courses in the Department of Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science (MSCS), and other St Olaf courses that require extensive use of R. The server is managed by St Olaf IT and Computer Science. RStudio Server Pro gives the same access to R that RStudio Desktop does, but in a web-based application with access to centrally-managed packages and project sharing. Below you’ll find documentation to help familiarize you with RStudio.

For Course RStudio Use

To request your course be added to the R Server, call the IT Helpdesk (x3830) or email helpdesk@stolaf.eduClasses will be added to the IT-managed RStudio server which has a 1gb soft quota and 20gb hard quota per user. User accounts will also be cleared annually during the summer months (except for summer session courses using the server).

Faculty are expected to provide students support in the use of RStudio for class purposes as IT does not have the expertise to support this.

To report server issues or lack of access, call the IT Helpdesk (x3830) or email helpdesk@stolaf.edu

For Advanced Course or Research Uses

If your research or course needs exceed the quota above, Computer Science maintains an RStudio Server and requests for access can be directed to r-cs@stolaf.edu. Note: IT does not offer support for the CS-managed server and all data should be backed up regularly by users.
