It is important to install these patches on a regular basis because they often fix issues that can expose your computer to hackers and other threats.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Automatic Updates <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>By default, Your Mac automatically checks for updates every week. When it does so, the following screen will appear:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-5.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3790 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-5.jpg?resize=512%2C534&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"SWU-5\" width=\"512\" height=\"534\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Review the list of applicable updates. By default, updates will be unchecked if you don&#8217;t own the applicable product. When finished, click the <strong>Install<\/strong> button. You will most likely be required to restart your computer after the updates are installed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Updating Manually<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you want to check for updates manually, or didn&#8217;t have time to install the updates when the Software Update window appeared, use the following directions.<\/p>\n<p>1. Select <strong>System Preferences<\/strong> from the Apple menu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-2.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3787 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-2.jpg?resize=249%2C332&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"SWU-2\" width=\"249\" height=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>2. Select the <strong>Software Update<\/strong> item.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-3.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3788 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-3.jpg?resize=595%2C585&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"SWU-3\" width=\"595\" height=\"585\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>The following window will appear.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>3. Click <strong>Check Now<\/strong> to automatically check for updates.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-4.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3789 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/wp.stolaf.edu\/it\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/12\/files\/2013\/07\/SWU-4.jpg?resize=607%2C419&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"SWU-4\" width=\"607\" height=\"419\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>After the search, it will display a list of updates for you to install.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>4.
