Paolo Livieri<\/strong>\u00a0(PhDs, McGill and Uni. of Pauda) is a research fellow at the Dept. of Cognitive Sciences, Psychology, Education and Cultural Studies, University of Messina. His publications on Hegel\u2019s logic and Jacobi\u2019s philosophy has issued in monographs as well as translations and shorter essays. He is currently working on an introduction to Hegel\u2019s philosophy of religion for Cambridge University Press.<\/p>\n

A consideration of how Kierkegaard takes up Jacobi\u2019s figure of the salto mortale, developing it into his own concept of the leap, which defines both the transition into religious existence and the dialectic of decision and repetition. “The work examines the presence and significance of Kierkegaard in Heidegger’s work. After setting out the context of Heidegger’s reception of the Danish thinker and examining his likely knowledge of his writings, the work first examines key Kierkegaardian concepts that are explicitly present in Being and Time, including existence, ‘idle talk’ (Gerede), anxiety, the moment of vision, repetition, and the existential significance of death. It is seen that Heidegger regarded Kierkegaard as an essentially religious writer whose work was only indirectly relevant to Heidegger’s own project of fundamental ontology. Subsequently, the work considers the place of Kierkegaard in Heidegger’s writings from the 1930s onwards, concluding with consideration of the paper Heidegger submitted for the 1963 Paris UNESCO conference marking the 150th anniversary of Kierkegaard’s thought.”<\/p>\n

After a successful run at\u00a0Yale<\/a>, it is my privilege to announce that my play,\u00a0Fear and Trembling<\/i>, will be produced at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in the venerated Hill Street Theatre from August 20th-24th. I will direct the play and act alongside members of the original cast. It has long been a dream of mine to stage work at the world’s largest arts festival, and I am delighted to invite anyone who will be in the region to attend my first professional production.<\/div>\n

In the play, which is the first English-language stage adaptation\u00a0of the work of S\u00f8ren Kierkegaard, three professors contend with faith, love, and the absurd\u00a0while attempting\u00a0to\u00a0understand the story of Abraham\u2019s call to sacrifice his son upon Mount Moriah.<\/div>\n
