Participants gain a familiarity with the basic grammatical structure of written Danish and hone the ability to work through and interpret passages in Kierkegaard\u2019s original Danish texts. Participants also become proficient in translating&nbsp;passages into English. The course is aimed at both new and advanced scholars of Kierkegaard who wish to engage the author in the original language and make informed&nbsp;interpretive decisions about particular passages. There are no prerequisites for course enrollment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Course Instructor: This course is taught by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stolaf.edu\/profile\/soderq2\">K. Brian S\u00f6derquist<\/a>, Kierkegaard scholar and part of the team that translated <a href=\"https:\/\/press.princeton.edu\/collected-works\/collected-soren-kierkegaard?srsltid=AfmBOooHBxiu2WKyjmNiOzBYGl75HV_G5usAbu95i_K_A0mPpSfzZ0BY\"><em>Kierkegaard\u2019s Journals and Notebooks<\/em>&nbsp;<\/a>(11 volumes).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Please note: this course is offered <strong>in-person only<\/strong>. Housing is not provided as part of the course; participants who are not also <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/kierkegaard\/ksi-research-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KSI Research Fellows<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/kierkegaard\/junior-research-fellows\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/kierkegaard\/junior-research-fellows\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KSI Junior Fellows<\/a> are responsible for securing their own off-campus housing. This is not an official course of St. Olaf College and does not provide official institutional course credit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Dates for Summer 2026: <\/strong>July 1 &#8211; July 30<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Course fee (paid by participant): <\/strong>$800<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Application deadline: <\/strong>April 1, 2026.
