In March the Lutheran Center is hosting a series of events on Lutheran-Jewish relations including our Spring Symposium and a campus visit on March 15 from Rev. Heidi Neumark, author of this winter’s All-Community Read book Hidden Inheritance: Family Secrets, Faith, and Memory.\u00a0<\/em><\/h3>\n

Lutheran Center Spring Symposium: Luther’s Legacy of Anti-Judaism and Contemporary Jewish-Lutheran Relations<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Featuring presenters Rabbi Dr. Ryan Dulkin<\/span>, Visiting Assistant Professor of Religion at St. Olaf, and Kathryn Lohre \u201899, Executive for Ecumenical and Inter-Religious Relations & Theological Discernment for the ELCA, the symposium will delve into will address the impacts of Martin Luther\u2019s anti-Judaism and explore contemporary Jewish-Lutheran relations. In 1543, Martin Luther published \u201cOn the Jews and Their Lies,\u201d an anti-Jewish diatribe filled with hateful and violent language towards Jewish people. As a college affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and \u201cnourished by Lutheran tradition,\u201d it is important that St. Olaf names Luther\u2019s anti-Judaism and participates in repairing his legacy of harm against Jewish people. The Symposium is free and open to the public and will also be live-streamed<\/a>. Those who attend the Symposium in person will be able to pick up a to-go lunch after the event. Registration is required to attend in-person.<\/p>\n

Neumark and Steve Hunegs, Executive Director of the\u00a0Jewish Community Relations Council, <\/a>will discuss and offer responses to The Making Known, an exhibition in the Flaten Art Museum that attends to the ethical questions that arise from the\u00a0Tetlie Collection of World War II Propaganda Posters<\/a>. This event is free and open to the public with an option for a dinner immediately following the program. Registration is encouraged but not required.
