{"id":2000,"date":"2022-10-24T11:29:03","date_gmt":"2022-10-24T16:29:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/lutherancenter\/?page_id=2000"},"modified":"2023-12-15T11:55:19","modified_gmt":"2023-12-15T17:55:19","slug":"connecting-with-purpose-grant-activities","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/lutherancenter\/programming\/past-programming\/connecting-with-purpose-grant-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Connecting with Purpose&#8221; Grant Activities (Archive)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>From May 2020\u2013December 2022, the Lutheran Center administered the &#8220;Connecting with Purpose: Expanding Vocational Reflection and Deepening Community in the Undergraduate Experience&#8221; grant, awarded by the Network for Vocation in Undergraduate Experience (NetVUE).<\/p>\n<h4>Full list of grant activities:<\/h4>\n<p><b>Communities of Practice &#8211; Summer 2020\u2013Fall 2020<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engaged over 60 faculty and staff in these communities focused on:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Academic Civic Engagement and International and Off-Campus Study Programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Advising and Mentorship for First-Generation and Low-Income Students<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Classroom Instruction<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Co-curricular Programs<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First-Year Seminar Program<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Integrating Academic and Vocational Reflection on Internships<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ministry\/Faith-Based Pathways<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Center for Undergraduate Research and Inquiry (CURI) Program<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We recorded three sharing sessions, featuring the work of each Community of Practice (sharing session <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1X8n45rIHl0UZgElcbmXcw_miU1dRvJu6\/view?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#1<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1_EdArkWMWJCFfxZk-pI_HbrP0EskqW8r\/view?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#2<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1udOmsL6W5RBeg7qN5l0BK-jflCMNrobx\/view?usp=sharing\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">#3<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Engaged Faculty Institute Vocation Workshop &#8211; January 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Following up on the Engaged Faculty Institute, around 10 faculty attended this follow-up workshop on vocation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Pedagogical Pilot Projects &#8211; Spring 2021\u2013December 2022<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The First Year Experience: The Vocation of Being a Student &#8211; Bridget Draxler and Anne Berry<br \/>\nCommunity-Based Research in Early Childhood Development &#8211; Dana Gross<br \/>\nIOS\/Piper Center Workshops &#8211; <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Paul Edwards and Theresa Heath<br \/>\nReligion, Politics, and Society in Jerusalem and Athens &#8211; Jason Ripley<br \/>\nEmpowering Middle\/High School Students to Affect Social Change through the Rhetoric of Greta Thunberg &#8211; Jenna Coughlin<br \/>\nDISCO Pedagogical Pilot &#8211; Ezra Plemons<br \/>\nPerforming Ethnography: Creating for Social Justice and Social Change &#8211; Elaigwu Ameh<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Eboo Patel\u2019s Interfaith Leadership for the 21st Century Workplace Seminar &#8211; Spring and Fall 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This seminar featured Eboo presenting on interfaith competencies and alumni\/Piper Center staff offering their experiences with navigating religious diversity in the workplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Interfaith Understandings of Vocation &#8211; Spring 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Featured 5 alumni, Branden Grimmett, Laura Crosskey, Maren Aspaas, Emery Utevsky, and Satveer Chaudhary, sharing the <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">role their faith\/religious traditions\/core commitments have played in their vocational discernment and how those aspects of their identity impacted their course of study at St. Olaf as well as their career paths since graduation. Here is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stolaf.edu\/multimedia\/play\/?e=3433\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recording<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the panel.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Recasting Vocation in a New Planetary Era &#8211; Spring 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building upon Assistant Professor of Religion and Environmental Studies Kiara Jorgenson\u2019s <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ecology of Vocation: Recasting Calling in a New Planetary Era<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a panel of scholars and practitioners reflected on the intersections of Lutheran identity and institutional ecological vocation amid the losses and pressures of climate change. Here is a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stolaf.edu\/multimedia\/play\/?e=3467\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">recording<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the panel.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Defining Vocation Anew Summer Workshop &#8211; Summer 2021<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A seminar for faculty and staff to explore together how we at St. Olaf will define vocation in ways that are accessible and engaging not just for our students but for all members of the community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>CURI Activities &#8211; Summer 2021 and Summer 2022<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In summer 2021, offered a lunch and dinner panel for CURI students around vocation and engaged 16 research teams in faculty-led conversations about research and vocation. In summer 2022, offered a staff panel on research and vocation for CURI students.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Engaged Departments &#8211; Summer 2021\u2013Summer 2022<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Physics and Music departments went through the Engaged Department process with a focus on vocation.
