Flourishing for All<\/h2>\n\n\t\t\t
\n\t\t\t

The Lutheran Center for Faith, Values, and Community is excited to announce the launch of our 2023-2024 programming under the theme Flourishing for All. The inspiration for this theme comes from the new book\u00a0So That All May Flourish: The Aims of Lutheran Higher Education<\/a>, which examines the core commitments, signature strengths, and contemporary callings of the 27 colleges and universities in the\u00a0Network of ELCA Colleges and Universities (NECU)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

St. Olaf is well represented in the book with chapters by Drs. Anton Armstrong, Anthony Bateza, and Deanna Thompson. Chapter topics include freedom of inquiry, pedagogy, disability accommodations, music, environmental sustainability, DEI work, religion, and many others!<\/p>\n\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\n\t\t\t

September 21st<\/strong>. The Lutheran Center hosted a breakfast to launch our academic year of events for the All-Community Read<\/span>. St. Olaf Professors, Dr Anton Armstrong ’78, Dr. Anthony Bateza and Dr. Deanna Thompson ’89 spoke about their chapters in the book and held a conversation with staff, faculty, and student colleagues during the breakfast. The event was co-sponsored by the Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts (CILA)<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"November 30.<\/b>\u00a0<\/span>Dr. Marit Trelstad<\/span><\/a> \u201889 (above) of Pacific Lutheran University led a conversation entitled \u201cHow do we align and critique values in our teaching and mentorship?\u201d at a lunch co-sponsored with the <\/span>Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts<\/span><\/a> (CILA). Discussion centered around the ways in which our values and the values of our institutions show up in our teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n

December 6th<\/strong>, <\/span>Associate Director Peter Schattauer \u201808<\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Interfaith Fellows Sophia Bloch \u201824 and Tove Trelstad-Larsen \u201824 <\/span>led the <\/span>Taylor Center\u2019s <\/span><\/a>monthly Out for Lunch discussion as part of the Lutheran Center\u2019s All-Community Read: Flourishing for All. The discussion centered around the experiences of LGBTQIA+ people at St. Olaf, particularly in a religious setting.<\/span><\/p>\n

January 25, 6:30 – 7:30 pm <\/b>\u2013 Scholars and St. Olaf alumni Dr. Anton Armstrong ’78 (St. Olaf College), Dr. Marcia Bunge ’76 (Gustavus Adolphus College), Dr. Deanna Thompson ’89 (St. Olaf College), and Dr. Marit Trelstad ’89 (Pacific Lutheran University) led a session for alumni about the All Community Read book. Each of the presenting scholars was an author for the book.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/strong>Finding Comfort in Change<\/strong><\/p>\n

An interactive event to engage students around tools – both theoretical and practical – to manage difficult emotions in times of transition. Transferring to St. Olaf, deciding a major, making summer plans can all be stressful. Interfaith Fellows from the Lutheran Center<\/span>\u00a0and Peer Educators from the\u00a0Wellness<\/span>\u00a0Center<\/span> joined participants to dig into options for reflection and finding both comfort and purpose on their paths.<\/p>\n

February 29, 11:30 a.m.\u201312:30 p.m. in the Trollhaugen Room \u2014 <\/b>The Faculty Governance Committee and the Lutheran Center for Faith, Values and Community co-hosted a workshop on academic freedom in practice at St. Olaf entitled <\/span>When Does Loving Your Neighbor Conflict with Freedom of Inquiry?<\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Tuesday, April 2nd<\/b> – Lutheran Center <\/span>Interfaith Fellows<\/span><\/a> will present at the <\/span>Inclusive Excellence Summit<\/span><\/a> sponsored by the <\/span>Office of Equity and Inclusion<\/span><\/a>. Their presentation, entitled \u201c<\/span>Rooted and Open: The Significance of Religious Diversity in Lutheran Higher Education,\u201d will focus on the importance of religious diversity at St. Olaf.
