Mathematics Major – Intended Learning Outcomes<\/h5>\n

Students will demonstrate:
\n<\/em>1.\u00a0 the ability to understand and write mathematical proofs.
\n2.\u00a0 the ability to use appropriate technology to assist in the learning and investigation of mathematics.
\n3.\u00a0 appreciation of mathematics as a creative endeavor.
\n4.\u00a0 the ability to use mathematics as a tool that can be used to solve problems in disciplinary and interdisciplinary settings.
\n5.\u00a0 the ability to effectively communicate mathematics and other quantitative ideas in written and oral forms.

Statistics Concentration – Intended Learning Outcomes<\/h5>\n

Students will demonstrate:<\/em><\/p>\n

  1. the ability to use available data to generate and refine questions.<\/li>\n
  2. the ability to conduct exploratory data analyses through data visualization and numerical summarization.<\/li>\n
  3. the ability to wrangle data through acquisition, transformation and manipulation.<\/li>\n
  4. the ability to choose appropriate models from a variety of statistical methods and implement those models with proficient use of technology.<\/li>\n
  5. the ability to interpret results correctly and make inferences consistent with the study design.<\/li>\n
  6. the ability to communicate results effectively.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Computer Science Major -Intended Learning Outcomes<\/h5>\n
    \n

    Students will demonstrate:<\/em><\/p>\n

    1.\u00a0 the ability to solve problems that require creative reasoning with levels of abstraction.
    \n2.\u00a0 competence in core computer science topics, represented by<\/p>\n

      \na.\u00a0 the ability to reason about structured computer systems; and
      \nb.\u00a0 the ability to design good algorithms.<\/ol>\n

      3.\u00a0 the capacity for identifying, analytically discussing, and creatively addressing ethical issues in realistic computing systems.
      \n4.\u00a0 the ability to design and implement projects in teams, following a prescribed development process.
      \n5.\u00a0 a baseline of proficiency with three major programming paradigms, with exemplary systems such as Linux, and with parallel computing.<\/p>\n
