Additionally, students must be <em>currently<\/em> studying the instrument\/voice type they apply to perform for the recital. See &#8220;Recital Expectations&#8221; for more information (I).<\/p>\n<p>Official Music Department Recitals include the following events:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Student Recitals (II)<\/li>\n<li>Junior and Senior Recitals that fulfill a degree requirement (III),<\/li>\n<li>Recitals by any senior music major taking lessons in the semester of the performance,<\/li>\n<li>Chamber Ensemble, Composition, and Advanced Conducting Recitals (IV).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See &#8220;Recital Programs&#8221; (V) for more information regarding the programs provided at these official music department recitals.<\/p>\n<p>Please see &#8220;Informal Recitals&#8221; (VI) for additional non-departmental performance opportunities.<\/p>\n<p>Before planning or scheduling any recital performance, consult with your instructor and see\u00a0 <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/music-handbook\/collaborative-pianists\/\">Collaborative Pianist<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 for more information.<\/p>\n<p>For space availability and room reservation requests, check the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/scheduling\/\">25 Live Room Reservations WebViewer<\/a>. <\/strong><em>No two official Music Department events may be scheduled at the same time.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>See &#8220;Recital Applications&#8221; (VII) for all of your application needs. Flowers on stage and presentation bouquets are not allowed. There are to be no encores.<\/li>\n<li>Students are provided a stage manager, a house manager, and a recordist; they must provide their own page turner if needed.<\/li>\n<li>Unauthorized photography or video and audio recording is prohibited. Check the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/document\/d\/1m23an3VfRbopl2DpvWYJukYkB_l7CpD5SYDWWFE-UYk\/edit?usp=sharing\"><strong>Student Recitals and Events <\/strong><\/a>schedule\u00a0for current application deadlines.<\/li>\n<li>A student can apply for two types of recitals:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Full Recital <em>(B.M. Performance only)<\/em>\u2014<\/strong> 60 minutes in length (approximately 50 minutes of music with entrances\/exits and transitions).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Half Recital\u2014<\/strong> 30 minutes in length (approximately 25 minutes of music with entrances\/exits and transitions). Performers should partner with another Half Recital performer to optimize space usage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Before a recital will be scheduled, the student must complete two performances on an official Student Recital. An entrance and\/or continuance recital performance may also fulfill this requirement.<\/li>\n<li>The Reception Room (CHM 105) is automatically scheduled for the hour following the performance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rehearsal<\/strong>: Total rehearsal time in the recital halls are limited to 2x the recital length. Rehearsal times can be reserved by sending a request through the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/scheduling\/\">25 Live Room Reservation WebViewer<\/a>.<\/strong> Other spaces can be reserved for added rehearsals. The sponsoring faculty member must approve and proofread program content before the Music Office will accept the program information.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General Student Recital Program information, including recital assistants, is due at the time the application is submitted.<\/li>\n<li>Junior\/Senior Recital Program information, including recital assistants and their teacher&#8217;s signature, must be submitted <strong>two weeks<\/strong> before the recital date. All program info must be submitted to the <strong><a href=\"mailto:wessel5@stolaf.edu\">Music Office<\/a> <\/strong>as a Google Doc.<\/li>\n<li>For Junior\/Senior Recitals and Fresh Ink, students may submit program notes in addition to their required program information. Any additional notes should be succinct and only relate to the music performed (i.e., dedications and the thanking of one\u2019s teachers, parents, etc. are unacceptable).<\/li>\n<li>The Music Office will need five copies of the finished program. The department will pay for the first 50 copies of the program.
