{"id":7094,"date":"2021-09-17T13:22:51","date_gmt":"2021-09-17T18:22:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/norwegian\/?page_id=7094"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:29:32","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:29:32","slug":"norwegian-major-course-requirements-3","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/norwegian\/norwegian-major-course-requirements-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Norwegian Major (Students Prior to 2021)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Norwegian Department will enter a transition period, as we begin to phase in a new set of requirements. <strong>The new requirements for the Norwegian major will apply to all students who enter the college in Fall 2021 and after.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This page outlines the \u201cold\u201d requirements for the Norwegian major.<\/strong> Students who began their studies at St. Olaf prior to the fall of 2021 are likely to have the option of continuing with the old requirements for the Norwegian major.\u00a0<strong>Changing to the new set of requirements for the Norwegian major may also require changing to the new OLE Core general education curriculum for your general education requirements.<\/strong>\u00a0Please contact the Registrar\u2019s Office for further information.<\/p>\n<p>Please see the college catalog for more information (<a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.stolaf.edu\/academic-programs\/norwegian\/#requirementstext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>). The college catalog is the official record of the requirements for all majors.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Norwegian major consists of 9 courses.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>7 courses must be in Norwegian, the remaining 2 can be in English or Norwegian.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The first 5 Norwegian language courses are sequential:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>NORW 111: Beginning Norwegian I<\/li>\n<li>NORW 112: Beginning Norwegian II<\/li>\n<li>NORW 231: Intermediate Norwegian I<\/li>\n<li>NORW 232: Intermediate Norwegian II<\/li>\n<li>NORW 253: Advanced Conversation &amp; Composition<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The final two Norwegian courses can be taken in either order:<\/strong><br \/>\nNORW 371: Norwegian Literature: An Overview<br \/>\nNORW 372: Advanced Topics Course (topic rotates each year)<\/p>\n<p><strong>The additional two courses taken need to meet these requirements.<\/strong><br \/>\n+ 1 course on history or culture<br \/>\n+ 1 upper-level course<\/p>\n<p>Read more about the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/curriculum-committee\/norwegian-major-ilos\/\">Intended Learning Outcomes<\/a> of the Norwegian Major here.<\/p>\n<p><!-- begin-migrated-from-panel-builder --><!-- end-migrated-from-panel-builder --><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In the 2021-2022 academic year, the Norwegian Department will enter a transition period, as we begin to phase in a new set of requirements.
