The St. Olaf Lyric Theater was founded by Janis Hardy and James McKeel in 2006 with the support of Charles Forsberg, Dan Dressen, and Alison Feldt. It has presented\u00a0nearly 30 opera, operetta, and musical productions, in addition to opera outreach programs in schools, opera creation residencies, world premieres, and improvised opera. The experience is an important training ground for student singer\/actors, composers, conductors, music and stage directors, pianists\/coaches, instrumentalists, choreographers, and lighting design\/operators.<\/p>\n

The program seeks to challenge and reward students and audiences alike with creative and traditional interpretations of lyric stage repertoire. A wide spectrum of composers’ works have been performed, from Monteverdi and Mozart to Puccini and Offenbach to Bernstein and Britten. This tenth anniversary season reflects the St. Olaf Music Department’s continuing commitment to lyric stage experience, innovative school outreach, and support of\u00a0student composers.<\/p>\n
