Employers often prefer to use referrals rather than deal with the hassle of numerous unknown applicants for one position. Therefore&#8230;<\/p>\n<h5>Networking is the\u00a0NUMBER ONE\u00a0way to find a job or internship.<\/h5>\n<h5>Strategies for finding hidden jobs and internships:<\/h5>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Connect with alumni, family or friends<\/strong> who can provide information about career fields you are interested in. Conduct <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/how-to-guides\/informational-interviews\/\">information interviews<\/a> in order to gain information and strengthen the relationship. Follow-up with a more specific requests for information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Connect directly with employers<\/strong> who might be able to provide an opportunity that fits with your interests. Email or call someone in the organization to let them know about your skills and interests and inquire about possible opportunities for you to contribute.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5>Use the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/networking-guide\/\">Networking Guide<\/a> and meet with a <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/connect-with-us\/staff\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Career Coach<\/a> to develop a personalized plan to access hidden jobs and internships related to your interests.<\/h5>\n<h5>Networking resources especially for Oles:<\/h5>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/internship-database-new\/\">St. Olaf Internship Database<\/a> &#8211; search information about 1400+ internships completed by Oles in the past.
