Tips on Writing a Good Proposal<\/strong><\/h2>\n
    \n
  • Follow all directions accurately.<\/li>\n
  • What is your mission?\u00a0 How does it align with the funder\u2019s mission? (show that you\u2019ve done your homework)<\/li>\n
  • Think about what niche you\u2019re filling\u2013what need are you addressing?<\/li>\n
  • When writing about the problem\/need you\u2019re addressing, be short, concise, and not overly negative. Don\u2019t assume the funder knows about your subject area.<\/li>\n
  • Statistics can be helpful.\u00a0 Rules on citations will differ from grant to grant.<\/li>\n
  • Avoid acronyms and scientific verbiage.<\/li>\n
  • Be realistic about your audience\u2014don\u2019t act like your project will change the world, the U.S, etc.<\/li>\n
  • Has this been done before? Was it successful?<\/li>\n
  • Think about how your project will be sustainable.<\/li>\n
  • Be clear about the desired impact of your project.<\/li>\n
  • Elaborate on your experience as it relates to your proposal.<\/li>\n
  • Try to stand out\u2014show your passion for the project.<\/li>\n
  • Use confident language (\u201cMy project\u00a0will<\/em>\u201d vs. \u201cMy project\u00a0would<\/em>\u201d).<\/li>\n
  • Do you research on how much money you will need\u2014be as detailed as possible.\u00a0 If the funding you need exceeds the amount the grant can provide, list any other sources of funding you are applying for.<\/li>\n
  • Cooperative efforts show local support for the project.\u00a0 Only list cooperators from whom you have gotten support.<\/li>\n
  • Develop a realistic timeline for your project.<\/li>\n
  • Anticipate the questions a grantor might have while reading your proposal\u2014be able to demonstrate that you have considered the potential obstacles to your plan.<\/li>\n
  • Show attention to grammar and spelling\u2014have multiple people read your proposal!<\/li>\n
  • Consider how your proposal fits in with your future goals.<\/li>\n
  • Try to find examples of proposals that have been funded by the grant you are applying for.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    \nAn explanation of the amount of grant money required for the project, how much you are requesting from this funder, and what your plans are for funding it in the future.<\/p>\n

    Organization and expertise<\/strong>\u00a0(one paragraph):
    \nWhat expertise do you have to support this project?<\/p>\n

    Conclusion\u00a0<\/strong>(one paragraph):
    \nBrief recap of project and how this grant will help you meet your goals.\u00a0 Include how this project fits into your future goals as well.<\/p>\n

    • What is your solution?<\/li>\n
    • Who is your target audience? Why?<\/li>\n
