Each involved college campus will select up to three students to compete for one of ten Phillips Scholars awards.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Phillips Scholars Program provides scholars the opportunity to do much more than volunteer. Scholars are challenged to identify community needs that fit within a theme and explore ways to create social change by designing and implementing a service project.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 1\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><b>PROGRAM COMPONENTS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What can you do with your summer effort? It\u2019s up to you! As long as you are proposing to meet a real need, students are encouraged to follow their passions when proposing a project.<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">2026\u201327 Academic Year<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (approximately 5-10 hours\/week)<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Engagement with monthly trainings throughout the year and a two-day retreat.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planning and preparation for your community service project.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Summer 2027<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Implement a community service project somewhere in Minnesota.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Project implementation should require approximately 20 hours per week during the summer.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>PROGRAM BENEFITS\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Significant leadership and professional development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students receive:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$5,000 scholarship for the 2026\u201327 academic year\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">$4,500 for a summer 2027 stipend <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>ELIGIBILITY\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>To be eligible for a Phillips Scholarship, a student must:<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be a first-year or sophomore in the spring of 2026<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate financial need<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aspire to address a significant need within a particular community<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be able to complete a community service project in Minnesota during the summer of 2027<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Demonstrate interest in civic engagement<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Be able to participate in all required program trainings and events<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p><b>APPLICATION PROCESS<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">STEP #1) Complete this brief<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/forms.gle\/cf2hZEXnSPeWvzfj8\"><b>application form<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by Wednesday, February 11<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">STEP #2) The Piper Center will select up to three finalists who will be invited to submit a final program application to compete with students from across Minnesota for one of ten scholarships.
