Research the industry, organization, and job title of the person you\u2019re contacting in order to formulate thoughtful questions. \u00a0Depending on your goals for the meeting, plan to ask for advice or ideas, or information about careers, leads, and referrals.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>While it is best to meet in person, you may need to initiate a connection over the telephone or by email:<\/li>\n<li>Send an email first \u2014 before you telephone<\/li>\n<li>Do <strong>not<\/strong> include your resume if you are contacting someone for the first time<\/li>\n<li>Write in your email that you plan to <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/how-to-guides\/interview-guide\/follow-up\/#phone-or-email\">follow up with a telephone call<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Be clear about when you plan to call.
