Start by reviewing <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/how-to-guides\/interview-guide\/interview-in-person\/\">interviewing in person<\/a>. Then consider these these additional tips:<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"preparing\"><\/a>Preparing the room for a phone interview<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Select a quiet, private room to take the call<\/li>\n<li>Turn off the stereo, computer, and the TV<\/li>\n<li>Remove the dog, cat or other pets, and close the door<\/li>\n<li>Use a landline unless your cell phone service is going to be perfect<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/pipercenter\/how-to-guides\/interview-guide\/clothes\/\">Dress as you would to interview in person<\/a>. You will be more focused and confident.<\/li>\n<li>Print out the job description and place it in front of you. \u00a0Highlight key phrases.<\/li>\n<li>Print out your resume, cover letter, and notes. \u00a0Place them in front of you to help you respond.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><a id=\"speaking\"><\/a>Speaking during a phone interview<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Speak slowly and enunciate clearly. \u00a0Organizations often use a speakerphone, which can make it hard for them to hear you<\/li>\n<li>Stand up while talking. \u00a0You will feel more focused, alert and confident<\/li>\n<li>Convey enthusiasm through your tone of voice.
