The Board oversees the college\u2019s academic quality and fiscal integrity, ensuring the college\u2019s ability to accomplish its purposes both now and in the future. Key Board responsibilities include appointing and assessing the performance of the college president; approving tenure for faculty members; approving and monitoring the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/strategic-plan\/\">strategic plan<\/a>; reviewing and approving the college\u2019s annual budget and long-term financial plans; assuring the quality, integrity, and sustainability of the college\u2019s buildings and grounds; and monitoring student outcomes, community well-being, and institutional effectiveness.<\/p>\n<p>The Board\u2019s organization and operations are governed by the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/04\/St-Olaf-College_Amended-and-Restated-Articles_20220401.pdf\">Articles of Incorporation<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2021\/04\/St-Olaf-College_Amended-Bylaws_Approved_20210507.pdf\">Bylaws<\/a>.\u00a0 In addition, the Board\u2019s statement on its core <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/5-Board-Commitments-Competencies-and-Composition-Approved-Feb-2021.pdf\">Commitments, Competencies, and Composition<\/a> guides its governance practices and the selection of new Regents.<\/p>\n<p>The Board meets three times during the academic year, normally in October, February, and May. In addition to participating in these meetings, each Regent serves on one or more <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/board-committees\/\">committees<\/a> focused on various aspects of the college\u2019s academic programs, community life, governance, and physical and fiscal resources.<\/p>\n<h2>Regents<\/h2>\n<p><em>All Regents with voting franchise are either appointed or elected to the Board by its current members.\u00a0 Two Regents hold appointed positions, one as a recent graduate of the college and the other as a liaison to the college&#8217;s alumni organization.\u00a0 The remaining Regents are elected to six-year terms that normally commence at the October Board meeting in the year of their election.\u00a0 They may be re-elected to a second six-year term.<\/em><\/p>\n<h4>Officers of the Board<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Chair: <\/strong>Susan Gunderson \u201979<br \/>\n<strong>Vice Chair:<\/strong> Stephanie Fehr &#8217;87<br \/>\n<strong>Secretary: <\/strong>Kathryn M.
