{"id":2466,"date":"2015-12-08T14:53:18","date_gmt":"2015-12-08T20:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/?page_id=2466"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:32:47","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:32:47","slug":"review-components","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/review-components\/","title":{"rendered":"Accreditation Review Components"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>St. Olaf maintains its accreditation by demonstrating that it meets the Higher Learning Commission\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/policy.hlcommission.org\/Policies\/criteria-for-accreditation.html\">Criteria for Accreditation<\/a> through the following review processes, occurring over a 10-year cycle:<\/p>\n<p>A <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hlcommission.org\/Accreditation\/comprehensive-evaluation.html\">Comprehensive Evaluation<\/a> <\/strong>is conducted once every ten years, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>assurance filing<\/strong>, in which the college prepares an \u201cassurance argument\u201d and evidence file \u201cassuring\u201d the HLC that it meets each of the 69 standards embedded in the five criteria for accreditation;<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>federal compliance filing<\/strong>, in which the college demonstrates that it meets applicable federal regulations and requirements for higher education institutions;<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>campus visit<\/strong> from a team of higher education peer reviewers selected by HLC, to gather information supplementing their initial analysis of the written assurance materials;<\/li>\n<li>A <span style=\"font-weight: normal !msorm;\"><strong>student opinion survey<\/strong><\/span> conducted by the Higher Learning Commission approximately two months prior to the peer reviewers\u2019 campus visit, which engages students in the evaluation process and helps the peer reviewers develop questions to ask during their visit;<\/li>\n<li>A <span style=\"font-weight: normal !msorm;\"><strong>peer review<\/strong><\/span> <strong>team report<\/strong>, provided both to HLC and to the college, indicating the team\u2019s determination as to whether the college continues to meet the Criteria for Accreditation;<\/li>\n<li>A written <strong>institutional response<\/strong> to the peer review team report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hlcommission.org\/Accreditation\/assurance-review.html\">Assurance Review<\/a><\/strong> is conducted in the fourth year after the comprehensive evaluation, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An updated <strong>assurance filing<\/strong>, with evidence and documentation \u201cassuring\u201d the HLC that the college meets the five criteria for accreditation;<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>team report <\/strong>from a team of peer reviewers, provided both to HLC and to the college, indicating the team\u2019s determination as to whether the college continues to meet the Criteria for Accreditation;<\/li>\n<li>A written <strong>institutional response<\/strong> to the team report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hlcommission.org\/Pathways\/quality-initiative.html\"><strong>Quality Initiative<\/strong><\/a> is developed and implemented any time between the fifth and ninth years after the comprehensive evaluation, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An <strong>improvement project<\/strong> addressing one or more areas of the college\u2019s operations or performance. The project can be a self-contained effort that begins and ends during this four-year time frame, or it can be one phase of a longer-term project.<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>quality initiative report<\/strong> reflecting on the project\u2019s implementation, accomplishments, challenges, and implications for the future;<\/li>\n<li>A <strong>team report <\/strong>from a team of peer reviewers, provided both to HLC and to the college, evaluating the institution\u2019s improvement effort;<\/li>\n<li>A written <strong>institutional response<\/strong> to the team report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>An <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hlcommission.org\/Monitoring\/institutional-update.html?highlight=WyJpbnN0aXR1dGlvbmFsIiwidXBkYXRlIiwiaW5zdGl0dXRpb25hbCB1cGRhdGUiXQ==\"><strong>Institutional Update<\/strong><\/a> is submitted annually, with current data on college enrollments, employees, programs, and finances.<\/p>\n<p>St. Olaf\u2019s most recent comprehensive review occurred in 2012-13, culminating in HLC\u2019s action to continue the college\u2019s accreditation effective July 1, 2013.
