{"id":3757,"date":"2021-11-17T12:46:21","date_gmt":"2021-11-17T18:46:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/?page_id=3757"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:32:47","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:32:47","slug":"quality-initiative","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/quality-initiative\/","title":{"rendered":"2020-22 Quality Initiative"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Equity and Inclusion at St. Olaf College: <\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Assessing, Enhancing, and Sustaining the Vision<\/strong><\/h3>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>June 2020 \u2013 May 2022<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/Quality-Initiative-Final-Report-Executive-Summary-May-2022.pdf\">Executive Summary<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/St.-Olaf-College-Quality-Initiative-Final-Report-May-2022.pdf\">Full Report to the Higher Learning Commission<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/Quality-Initiative-HLC-Peer-Reviewers-Report-06-08-22.pdf\">HLC Peer Reviewers\u2019 Evaluation of the Initiative<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/review-components\/\">Higher Learning Commission\u2019s ten-year accreditation cycle<\/a>, institutions are required to design and carry out a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hlcommission.org\/Accreditation\/quality-initiative.html\">Quality Initiative<\/a>, a significant improvement effort structured either as a self-contained project or as an important milestone in a longer-term endeavor. The process begins with the submission of a proposal to the HLC, subsequently peer-reviewed by an HLC-appointed team, and concludes with a final report which is also peer-reviewed.<\/p>\n<p>St. Olaf\u2019s June 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2021\/11\/Quality-Initiative-Proposal-St.-Olaf-College-MN.pdf\">proposal<\/a> for a two-year initiative, <em>Equity and Inclusion at St. Olaf College: Assessing, Enhancing, and Sustaining the Vision<\/em>, was focused on implementing Goal 5 of the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/the-council\/plan\/\">2019 Equity and Inclusion Plan<\/a>:\u00a0 \u201cHold ourselves accountable for the success of the plan through assessment, reporting, action, and celebration.\u201d Our <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/St.-Olaf-College-Quality-Initiative-Final-Report-May-2022.pdf\">final report<\/a> was submitted in May 2022, and our <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/president\/files\/2022\/06\/Quality-Initiative-HLC-Peer-Reviewers-Report-06-08-22.pdf\">peer reviewers\u2019 report<\/a> was received in June 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The milestones achieved in the course of the initiative included:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The development of the college\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/theory-of-transformation\/\">Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Theory of Transformation<\/a>, which defines our DEI aspirations and describes the actions we are taking to achieve them<\/li>\n<li>The development and ongoing implementation of the <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/co-creating\/\">Co-Creating an Inclusive Community<\/a> model of DEI institutional change, in which students, faculty, staff, and leadership work together to envision and create a campus community where people of all identities experience belonging, connection, and agency<\/li>\n<li>The launch of the college\u2019s interactive <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/equity-inclusion\/dei-data\/\">DEI Dashboards and Additional Data<\/a> website keyed to the aspirations identified in our Theory of Transformation and incorporating a wide variety of institutional research and assessment data<\/li>\n<li>The inauguration of the St. Olaf <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/news\/st-olaf-hosts-inaugural-diversity-equity-and-inclusion-symposium\">Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Symposium<\/a>, featuring the DEI work of more than 60 St. Olaf students, staff, faculty, and alumni, and involving more than 300 participants from across the college community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The peer reviewers assigned by the Higher Learning Commission determined that the Quality Initiative met all the requirements for a successful initiative, including seriousness of effort, scope and impact of the work, community commitment and engagement, and resource provision.\u00a0 Their report concluded:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe community of St. Olaf College has demonstrated a clear commitment to planning, executing, and deploying the Quality Initiative (QI) entitled Equity and Inclusion at St. Olaf College: Assessing, Enhancing, and Sustaining the Vision.
