With a few exceptions, these resources are available to term as well as tenured\/tenure track faculty members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:800\">Grants &#8211; College Funded<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/files\/2021\/03\/The-Walter-and-Betty-Stromseth-Fund-bio.pdf\">Walter and Betty Stromseth<\/a> Fund for Intercultural and Inter-religious Education<\/strong> provides funding up to $2,000 to support course development, workshops and training, and\/or speakers addressing the ethical resources of the major religions for cooperatively addressing global issues of poverty, health care, and environmental preservation and to explore the challenges and opportunities of integrating cultural and religious pluralism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/stromseth-fund-proposals\/\">Stromseth Fund Proposal submission form<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/art\/mac-gimse\/\">Gimse<\/a> <em>Striving for Peace on Horizon&#8217;s Brim<\/em> Art Endowment<\/strong> is a call for creative project proposals funded in the range between $2,000 and $12,000 open to the St. Olaf faculty, staff, and student community. Considerable assistance in grant application and grant fund management is available from <a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/gfcr\/\">the Office of Government, Foundation, and Corporate Relations<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:800\">Individual Professional Activity and Travel (IPAT) accounts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IPAT accounts provide annual professional development support for tenured, tenure-track, special appointment and teaching specialist faculty members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/ipat\/\">General IPAT policies and procedures<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/ipat-management\/\">Managing your IPAT account<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/ipat-tablet-purchase-policy-for-teaching-and-research\/\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"13399\">IPAT Tablet Purchase Policy<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:800\">Leaves<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Various types of college-supported leaves are available to faculty at different stages of their careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/pre-tenure-sabbatical-leaves\/\">Pre-tenure sabbatical leaves<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/sabbaticals\/\">Sabbatical<\/a> and related leaves<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:800\">Programs, Events, and Additional Resources<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A variety of professional development opportunities are available throughout the academic year and over the summer, some hosted by St. Olaf and some by other institutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The St. Olaf&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/cila\/\">Center for Innovation in the Liberal Arts<\/a>&nbsp;(CILA) coordinates&nbsp;faculty conversations,&nbsp;writing retreats, and longer-term collaborations about learning, teaching and scholarship.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The college hosts periodic summer workshops to support faculty members teaching courses that meet selected General Education requirements, including First Year Seminar, Writing &amp; Rhetoric, and Experience in Practice.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Libraries and IT offer learning communities, summer institutes, showcase events, and hands-on workshops that focus on integrating digital technologies with teaching and research.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acm.edu\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Associated Colleges of the Midwest<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cic.edu\/programs#for-faculty-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Council of Independent Colleges&nbsp;<\/a>provide a range of scholarly, pedagogical and leadership development opportunities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/hr\/linkedinlearning\/\">LinkedIn Learning<\/a> is an online library including 2,500+ courses taught by industry experts in software, creativity, and business skills.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Support for the Humanities: St. Olaf is a member of two organizations providing resources and research opportunities for those in the humanities. The <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalhumanitiescenter.org\/scholarly-programs\/\">National<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/nationalhumanitiescenter.org\/scholarly-programs\/\">Humanities Center <\/a>offers grants, fellowships, a summer residency program, and a variety of institutes and professional development programs. The <a href=\"https:\/\/nhalliance.org\/higher-education\/\">National Humanities<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/nhalliance.org\/higher-education\/\">Alliance<\/a> provides resources and information supporting humanities education\u2014including ways to lift up the value of humanities and guidance on grant-seeking.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Funding for special lectures, events or speakers is available through&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/provost\/leraas-fund\/\">Leraas Fund grants.<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Faculty Life Committee awards professional development grants from the Nygaard Study in Norway Endowment annually to support faculty travel to Norway for research, course development, or language study. Nygaard grants may be combined with the Oslo International Summer School.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uio.no\/summerschool\">Oslo International Summer School<\/a>&nbsp;offers an opportunity for a St. Olaf faculty member to participate in the six-week ISS program each summer. Participation in the ISS could lead either to an enrichment of courses faculty already teach, to development of new courses, or to new contacts or research opportunities in their field. It could also mean an opportunity for individuals to take on new intellectual or cultural challenges outside of their own academic fields. The stipend includes all program fees, room &amp; board, (if living on-campus) and one weekend excursion. Recipients are responsible for their own international travel and personal expenses. Contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:fredrick@stolaf.edu\">Michelle Fredrickson<\/a> for more information.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" style=\"font-style:normal;font-weight:800;text-transform:capitalize\">Professional Development-Related Awards<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/cila\/cassling-award\/\">Cassling Family Fund for Faculty Innovation Awards<\/a><br \/>Faculty Innovation Awards recognize creativity and excellence in teaching.
