{"id":161,"date":"2012-10-03T16:17:41","date_gmt":"2012-10-03T21:17:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/psych\/?page_id=161"},"modified":"2026-03-23T09:42:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T14:42:34","slug":"psi-chi","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/psych\/psi-chi\/","title":{"rendered":"Psi Chi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Psi Chi?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.psichi.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Psi Chi<\/a> is the National Honor Society in Psychology, founded in 1929<br \/>for the purposes of encouraging,&nbsp;stimulating, and maintaining excellence in scholarship, and advancing the science of psychology.&nbsp;Membership is open to graduate and undergraduate men and women who are making the study&nbsp;of psychology one of their major interests,&nbsp;and who meet the minimum qualifications. Psi Chi&nbsp;is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is an affiliate of theAmerican&nbsp;Psychological Association (APA) andthe American Psychological Society (APS)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>To be eligible for Psi Chi students need to meet all the following requirements:<\/strong><br \/>1. Declared Psychology major.<br \/>2. Must have completed at least 3 full credit Psychology courses at St. Olaf. (AP credit does not count as one of the three necessary courses).<br \/>3. Have a Psychology G.P.A. of 3.3 or higher.<br \/>4. Have an overall G.P.A. that puts you in the top 35% of your class (typically a 3.5 or higher).<br \/>5. Must have completed at least 3 semesters of college.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Calculating Psi Chi G.P.A.<\/strong><br \/>This differs from the calculation of Psychology G.P.A. (Differences are noted in italics)<br \/>1. AP credit does not count as one of the Psychology Courses.<br \/>2. There is no rounding up.<br \/>3.<em>Transfer courses are not figured into the GPA or courses completed.<\/em><br \/><em>4.
