The theft of billfolds, purses, backpacks, and jackets are some of the easiest and most common crimes on college campuses. If you follow these suggestions, your chance of becoming a victim will be reduced. If you do become a victim, your loss can be minimized.<\/p>\n

1. When on campus:
\n<\/b>a) Do not leave your purse, backpack, or jacket unattended in the libraries or study lounges.
\nb) Always lock your bicycle to a bike rack and use a quality lock.<\/p>\n

2. When in your residence hall\/house:<\/b>
\n<\/b>a) NEVER prop open an exterior door and NEVER open the door for someone you don\u2019t know.
\nb) Lock the doors and windows to your room when it is unoccupied and when you are sleeping.
\nc) Do not leave your wallet, purse, or large amounts of money in plain view in your room.
\nd) If you have valuable jewelry in your room, store them out of sight.
\ne) Always require identification before allowing someone unfamiliar to enter your room.
\nf) Record the make, model and serial numbers of all valuable property in your room.
\ng) Keep your curtains drawn during the evening.<\/p>\n

3. Minimizing your loss:
\n<\/b>a) Limit the amount of cash you carry with you.
\nb) Separate your cash and credit cards.
\nc) Keep a list of all credit card numbers and the issuing company number in a safe place.<\/p>\n
