St. Olaf does not cross-list courses.<\/li>\n<li>Ignore the General Education Requirement(s) section. That curriculum expired in 2021.<\/li>\n<li>If the course fulfills one or more of the current OLE Core requirements, click on the appropriate OLE Core checkbox. This opens a prompt field requiring text for each ILO. What do employers want from workers? Pressing policy issues exist for workers competing in the global economy. Unions, unemployment insurance, welfare, and the minimum wage enhance the prospects of many while leaving others even worse off. This course utilizes microeconomic theory, statistics, and institutional analysis to understand labor markets. Offered annually. Class activities foster analysis of historical and autobiographical texts to reflect on how power and privilege intersect and shape students\u2019 own experiences. Faculty should seriously consider whether planning a new course with the Smith Center is feasible while on sabbatical leave.\n<ul>\n<li>Spring Responsibilities: Preparing website content and accommodation statements, program design and budget discussions, attending the recruitment fair for January term program, application review and acceptances.<\/li>\n<li>Fall Responsibilities: Training meetings for Faculty Leaders, potential one-on-one meetings with students to discuss accommodations or other course-related questions, meetings with their Smith Center liaisons (these should not take the place of attending group training meetings), and student orientation sessions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Program Orientation<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Pre-departure orientation is expected during the fall semester. Faculty should arrange 2-3 (ideally 3) separate dates of pre-departure orientation between fall break and reading day to enable group formation and preparation for the study abroad\/away experience. Smith Center staff should be scheduled to attend at least half of one meeting to share general updates that apply to all programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>J-Term Course Dates<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Program dates should be similar to, but need not exactly match, the on-campus J-term dates. Flexibility is available on either side, to enable flexibility with flights and on-site arrangements. Students must be notified in advance of the program dates and should have at least three days of break before the start of spring semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Final Assignments and Grading<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Final student assignments are due no later than the last day of the program. Faculty may not extend due dates into the J-term break week. A student requesting an incomplete should follow the usual campus procedure with the dean of students office.<\/li>\n<li>Grade deadlines for study abroad\/away J-term courses are the same as on-campus deadlines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5>Program Time On Site<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Programs should ideally not split time between campus and program site.
