{"id":231,"date":"2012-03-22T20:35:59","date_gmt":"2012-03-22T20:35:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/ferpa-parentaccess\/"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:34:28","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:34:28","slug":"ferpa-parentaccess","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/ferpa-parentaccess\/","title":{"rendered":"Parental Access to Children&#8217;s Education Records"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p><strong>St. Olaf College<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>St. Olaf College discloses information from a student\u2019s education records to parent(s)\/guardian(s) if the student has authorized disclosure of education records to the student\u2019s parent(s)\/guardian(s), or if the student\u2019s parent(s)\/guardian(s) claim(s) the student as a dependent for federal tax purposes.<\/p>\n<p>St. Olaf College cannot, however, assume the dependency status of all of our students and thus requires verification of status in order to release records to a student&#8217;s parent(s)\/guardian(s).\u00a0 To this end, all students are required to complete the Permissions hold in SIS annually.<\/p>\n<p>If a dependent student does not grant authorization via the \u201cRelease Form for Disclosure to Parents\/Guardians,\u201d the student\u2019s parent(s)\/guardian(s) may request disclosure of education records by submitting a letter indicating that the parent(s) declare(s) the student as a dependent on his\/her\/their most recent federal income tax form (IRS Code of 1954, Section 152).\u00a0 The tax form must be accompanied by a letter, addressed to the appropriate office, that identifies the student and specifies the information needed from the education record.\u00a0 The office will notify the student that a request for confidential information has been received, and that the office intends to comply with the request, unless the request comes from a parent\/guardian to whom the student has specifically denied disclosure of education records, even if the student is dependent of that parent for federal income tax purposes.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/ferpa-addadvice\/\">\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><!-- begin-migrated-from-panel-builder --><!-- end-migrated-from-panel-builder --><\/p>\n<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>St. Olaf College St. Olaf College discloses information from a student\u2019s education records to parent(s)\/guardian(s) if the student has authorized disclosure of education records to the student\u2019s parent(s)\/guardian(s), or if [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":18,"featured_media":0,"parent":0,"menu_order":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"class_list":["post-231","page","type-page","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":[],"jetpack_sharing_enabled":true,"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/page"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/18"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=231"}],"version-history":[{"count":4,"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":14809,"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/pages\/231\/revisions\/14809"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/registrar\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=231"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
