Resources for Summer Students

We will begin accepting Summer Housing Requests starting on March 23, 2022. 

If you have questions about the Summer Residence Hall, please contact the Residence Life Office at

  • The Summer Housing Request deadline is Sunday, May 15, 2022. (email to request an application via email after May 15th)
  • Summer Resident Assistant and Summer Hall Receptionist Applications are available online beginning April 5, 2022  further down this page. Applications are due by April 11, 2022.
  • Housing rates
    • Rand Single – $15.35 per night
    • Rand Double – $10.35 per night
    • Rand Quad – $9.35 per night – as long as room is filled with four people
    • Kildahl Double – $10.35 per night
    • Kildahl Single – $10.35 per night – as long as there is space
  • Priority for singles will be given to documented medical reasons.
  • There will be some summer storage space for students moving into Rand and Kildahl. Summer storage hours will be posted closer to finals.

  • Monday, May 30 from Noon – 8 p.m.

Check-in Procedures for Tuesday, May 31 – August 24

Check-in at Rand/Kildahl Hall on:

  • Monday’s – Friday’s:   5:00 – 8:00 p.m.
  • Saturday’s – Sunday’s: 1:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.

Eligibility for campus housing

Students wishing to reside in St. Olaf housing over the summer should be working for the college, enrolled in summer classes, participating in an internship or are currently enrolled students who have no other housing available.  Graduating seniors are eligible for housing until August 1, 2022.

Dates of Occupancy

Students wishing to reside in St. Olaf housing between May 30 – August 25 must submit a Summer Housing Request by May 15, 2022. Space is limited and you may be turned down for housing if you apply after May 15, 2022.  After May 15 to apply for summer housing please email

Summer housing closes 10 a.m. Thursday, August 25 – no exceptions

Late summer housing
Students wanting to remain on campus between August 24 – September 3 will move to early arrival housing in Ytterboe Hall on August 19-22. All arrangements must be made with the Associate Dean of Students for Residence Life by August 5, 2022. There is an additional charge of $10.35 per night ($15.35 if in a single room).  You may sign up here.

Room and Board

The cost of a room is below.  Students are billed from the date they check in until the date the check out.   There is no refund if people leave campus on vacation for some time in that time period.

Housing Procedures and Policies

Room Assignment
Each student will receive an assignment upon check-in.

Room requests will be based on the following:
1. Lives in Rand/Kildahl currently during current academic year
2. Will live in Rand/Kildahl during the fall of the next academic academic year
3. Mutual requests of roommate(s)

Students are expected to conduct themselves in a responsible and mature manner. It is expected that all students at St. Olaf College will comply with regulations as defined in the code of conduct while they are students, employees, or residents at St. Olaf.

Students living in summer housing may retain an automobile on campus, but must obtain a parking permit through online parking permit process. Permits are also required for motorcycles and mopeds. Parking during summer school is in the designated student parking areas and all vehicles must be registered.

Rand and Kildahl Halls provide limited kitchen facilities that allow students to cook their own meals.

Students may store their belongings in the Summer Hall Storage Room as space permits on a first-come, first-serve basis before the end of the spring semester. Storage will be open at the end of the semester dates and times will be announced closer May. When you arrive at the storage during the posted hours, inform the hall staff person working that you will be a summer resident.

At the end of each summer term, arrangements can be made through the Residence Life Office deposit belongings in the storage room (if space is available) of the residence hall in which you will reside during the 2022-23 school year. Townhouse residents may store belongings in storage located in Mellby hall.

Summer Employment Opportunities – Applications won’t be available until April 5

 Students interested in procuring part-time work on campus during the summer should contact the Office of Human Resources or visit the Student Employment Job Posting site or visit the Financial Aid Student Work page.  The on-campus options are limited. There will be a few work-study positions for hall receptionists available for Rand Hall summer residents and a five positions for Resident Assistant.

Hall Receptionists / storage workers
Applications will be accepted April 5-11.  We will only accept 15 applications and then close the process. We only hire 5-8 desk workers.   Students may not work over 40 hours per week on campus. Due to the large number of applications that may be received, not everyone is guaranteed an interview.

Summer Resident Assistants
Applications will be accepted April 5 – 11.  Compensation is summer housing room cost. We will only accept 15 applications.  We only hire 6 RAs for summer, not everyone is guaranteed an interview. Summer Resident Assistants are not guaranteed singles and may have roommates.  Summer RA candidates must have worked previously as an RA or JC. First consideration will be give to RA candidates that are available to work the entire summer.
