You must remain in good academic and disciplinary standing during the time between your acceptance to study abroad\/away and your departure.<\/p>\n

If a leave from St. Olaf is taken in the term prior to studying abroad\/away, you may ineligible to study abroad\/away.<\/p>\n

Each study abroad\/away program will have its own practices that differ from St. Olaf.\u00a0 Those practices must be followed as an enrolled student.\u00a0 This means all housing, visas, academics and other policies that are put in place by the program will need to be followed.<\/p>\n\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t\t<\/div> \n\t\t\t\n\t\t<\/div> \n\t<\/div> \n\n\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\n\n\n\t\t\t\n\t\n\t\t\t

Communication with the Smith Center doesn\u2019t stop once you\u2019re approved to study abroad\/away \u2013 it\u2019s only just beginning!\u00a0 Paying attention to your inbox and responding to messages received is vital to your successful participation in study abroad\/away.\u00a0 The Smith Center and your study abroad\/away program will have many reasons to be in touch with you throughout your experience \u2013 before, during, and after your study abroad\/away program.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Email is the official form of communication with the Smith Center and St. Olaf.\u00a0<\/strong> Your program may also communicate via email or through a portal.\u00a0 <\/span>We expect you to check your St. Olaf email, program email, and program portals regularly<\/b> to ensure you\u2019re always in-the-know.\u00a0 Email is the easiest and most efficient way to reach our office, should an issue arrive while you’re studying abroad\/away.\u00a0 Email is often the optimal (and sometimes only way) for St. Olaf to contact you regarding matters such as financial aid, registration, and housing.\u00a0 <\/span>Contact the Smith Center by email at smith.center@stolaf.edu<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The Smith Center expects that you will respond to messages received from the Smith Center and your program within 3 days or receipt.<\/b><\/p>\n

The Smith Center also expects YOU to communicate when experiencing any problems, challenges, etc.<\/b>\u00a0 We can only help when we know you need help!\u00a0 We cannot read your mind. Email us at <\/span>smith.center@stolaf.edu<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n

Important communication considerations:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Responsibility:<\/span><\/span> Your program will communicate directly to you and only you \u2013 rarely do they copy the Smith Center.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. Time differences:<\/span> Noting any time differences is crucially important.\u00a0 related to deadlines<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. Standard working hours:<\/span>\u00a0 Both the Smith Center and staff from your program have standard working hours.\u00a0 You might not be able to get an immediate response when contacting us or them outside of standard working hours.\u00a0 Smith Center standard working hours during the academic year are M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm.\u00a0 During the summer our hours are M-TH 7:30am-4:30pm, and F 7:30am-12:00pm.\u00a0 Your program’s staff may have working hours different from the U.S. standard 8am-5pm hours.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Emergencies:<\/span> The Smith Center is available 24\/7 for emergencies.\u00a0 If you\u2019re experiencing an emergency, contact us at 1-507-321-2100.\u00a0 Your program likely also has an emergency number.<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
