Over the past thirty years, ever larger percentages of both before and after-tax income have been accruing to the top ten percent and even more precipitously to the top one percent of our country\u2019s (indeed the world\u2019s) income earners. Income inequality in the United States has not been as high as it is now since the years just prior to the Great Depression.<\/p>\n

This conference will address the following questions:
\n1 .\u00a0 Why has income inequality increased so substantially over the past thirty years?
\n2.\u00a0\u00a0 What, if any, are the economic consequences of increasing inequality?
\n3.\u00a0\u00a0 Should we attempt to mitigate increasing inequality, and if so how?
\n4. \u00a0 Is substantial income inequality compatible or incompatible with widely held norms of social and economic justice?
\n5. \u00a0 Is substantial income inequality compatible or incompatible with democracy?<\/p>\n
