{"id":2507,"date":"2023-05-08T15:39:02","date_gmt":"2023-05-08T20:39:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/spanish\/?page_id=2507"},"modified":"2023-06-07T08:36:59","modified_gmt":"2023-06-07T13:36:59","slug":"components-of-the-placement-exam","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/spanish\/components-of-the-placement-exam\/","title":{"rendered":"Components of the Placement Exam"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><h5>Components of the Exam<\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The Spanish survey\/placement exam is a multiple-choice exam made up of the following sections:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Grammar and Sentence \/ Dialogue Completion<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This section of the exam focuses on structures such as present, preterite, imperfect, present subjunctive, future and conditional verb tenses, noun-adjective agreement, adverbs, and the use of <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ser and estar, saber <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and<\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> conocer<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. It also tests students\u2019 familiarity with high-frequency vocabulary and their ability to choose the appropriate word to complete a sentence or dialogue.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Reading Comprehension<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The items in this section are drawn from authentic readings, including magazine articles and short stories.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Essay Questions<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Based on your performance on the two sections mentioned above, you may be prompted by the computer to respond in writing to an additional essay question if necessary to determine your final placement.
