This requirement is in place for the protection of our students.<\/p>\n<h4>Domestic Students<\/h4>\n<p>As of the 2024-2025 academic year, St. Olaf is no longer offering a school sponsored domestic insurance plan. This decision was made while considering the needs of students, families, and staff. Students must have insurance that covers emergency care in Minnesota, but are not required to have coverage based in Minnesota, and families with outside insurance no longer need to submit a waiver providing proof of coverage.<\/p>\n<h4>International Students<\/h4>\n<p>St. Olaf will continue to require our international students to participate in the international student plan through LewerMark.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Understanding Healthcare<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Learning how to navigate health care in the U.S. is not only a daunting task for many St. Olaf students, health literacy is a national concern for many people of all ages.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/wellness\/understanding-health-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Understanding Health Care<\/a>\u00a0page was made by St. Olaf students in order to provide students with the tools and support to help them tools to navigate health care with more confidence. By guiding our research based on student data along with staff and student interviews, this webpage covers a wide array of health care issues that students identify struggling with.<\/p>\n<h4>Campus Health Services<\/h4>\n<p>St. Olaf Health Services\u00a0<u><\/u>is located in New Hall on the east side entrance. In other words, s<\/span>tudents must have insurance that covers emergency care in Minnesota but are not required to have coverage based in Minnesota.<\/p>\n<p>Coverage will continue for all students currently on the UnitedHealthcare (UHC) plan through St. Olaf will until August 14, 2024, after which time they should be covered under an alternate plan.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We understand that this transition may be challenging for some, so we have provided some information below on health insurance alternatives. We are also happy to provide a letter of termination to enroll in a new health insurance plan if needed.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Healthcare Options<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Options for alternative health insurance coverage include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enrolling in a parent\u2019s plan<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enrolling in Minnesota\u2019s public insurance program (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mnsure.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MNsure<\/a>)<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most students are eligible to apply<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Enrolling in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.healthcare.gov\/marketplace-in-your-state\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">public insurance<\/a> through your home state<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">BadgerCare, Medi-Cal, Health Colorado, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Obtaining insurance through a private company<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3><strong>MNsure<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>MNsure is Minnesota\u2019s health insurance marketplace where individuals and families can shop, compare, and choose health insurance coverage that meets their needs. Students from out-of-state are able to apply for MNsure because they reside in Minnesota during their time at St. Olaf. This requirement is in place for the protection of the students.<\/p>\n<p>The international student insurance policy is offered through\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lewermark.com\/school-detail\/?SID=stolaf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LewerMark<\/a>. Please visit LewerMark\u2019s designated\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lewermark.com\/school-detail\/?SID=stolaf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">St. Olaf website<\/a> for details. The premium (which includes a grant to offset the cost of the premium) for the 2025-2026 academic year is $1,000 and will be billed in two installments \u2013 one installment in the fall, and one in the spring.<\/p>\n<p>The premium for the 2026-2027 academic year is not yet determined.
