{"id":531,"date":"2016-05-06T15:02:13","date_gmt":"2016-05-06T20:02:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/title-ix\/?p=531"},"modified":"2016-05-06T15:55:04","modified_gmt":"2016-05-06T20:55:04","slug":"may-5-meeting-summary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wp.stolaf.edu\/title-ix\/2016\/05\/06\/may-5-meeting-summary\/","title":{"rendered":"May 5 meeting summary"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-modular-content-collection><p>Over the past several weeks we have had an overwhelming response from people wanting to engage with the Working Group.<\/p>\n<p>Last night we spent four and a half hours meeting with students who are passionate about these issues \u2014\u00a0including many who have been through St. Olaf\u2019s Title IX process. Our goal was to be engaged listeners, to learn from people\u2019s experiences, and to invite conversation about their experience with the college\u2019s process.<\/p>\n<p>We had a very constructive conversation with several members of the Grey Shirts group. They presented their recommendations in a thoughtful, articulate and well-researched manner, and we are grateful for their time and perspective. We also met last night with other students who had experienced the Title IX process.<\/p>\n<p>Last week we shared our goal for a policy that balances our legal obligations, the psychological dynamics of interpersonal violence, and St. Olaf\u2019s culture and values. Our conversations yesterday gave us important insight into St. Olaf culture \u2014\u00a0not only the culture of sexual assault and our Title IX process, but also the way students respond to sexual assault. We were impressed by our students\u2019 resiliency, courage, and desire to effect change for the betterment of the entire community.<\/p>\n<p>We are thankful for these students\u2019 willingness to participate in our process and share painful and emotional experiences with us. These students embody the values the St. Olaf community holds dear.<\/p>\n<p>We recognize even more acutely the impact of sexual assault on campus and how it changes lives. Last night we heard some of these life-changing experiences.
