Norway Patron Tour

Three options

We invite you to see the St. Olaf Choir and St. Olaf Orchestra perform in Norway, with three options to best fit your interests and schedule.

This patron tour is limited to 25 people and will feature premier and unique opportunities such as small group dinners and a book club hosted by President David R. Anderson ’74 and his wife, the writer Priscilla Paton, and conversations with the conductors and student musicians, among other experiences that are in the works. Enjoy the music of the St. Olaf Choir and St. Olaf Orchestra in a combination of shared and solo concerts in esteemed locations throughout Norway, including the Oslo Opera House, Trondheim’s Nidaros Cathedral, Bergen’s Grieghallen, and the Stavanger Konserthus. 

The St. Olaf Choir, St. Olaf Orchestra, and St. Olaf Band toured together in Norway in 2005, and the St. Olaf Choir Centennial Tour in Norway was in 2013. This tour will be remarkable in the musical offerings, the scenery and culture, and the charm and hospitality of the Norwegian people.

What to Expect
Expect a premier experience! We’ll enjoy four or five star hotels (see the possibilities below). We’ll go as door-to-door as we can by private motor coach and enjoy unforgettable dining experiences featuring local cuisine. We’ll revel in the company of fellow music-lovers, share time with David and Priscilla, and hear from the conductors and select student musicians. And we’ll hear the incomparable St. Olaf Choir and St. Olaf Orchestra, two of St. Olaf’s premier Ambassador music ensembles.

Program Fee
The full patron tour is $9,465 per person. The first half tour is $6,963 per person, and the second half tour is $6,646 per person, plus a per-person patron contribution of $2,000 which will be directed back into the ensemble costs of the tour, regardless of which tour portion you choose. Based on double occupancy, it includes accommodations, breakfast daily and group meals as listed on the itinerary, admissions for group activities, ground transportation in Norway, concerts as listed on the itinerary, gratuities for group meals, guides, and drivers, luggage handling, and some limited medical travel insurance. For single occupancy, add $2,838 for the full patron tour, $1,713 for the first half tour, or $1,701 for the second half tour.

Airfare between the U.S. and Norway is not included. Participants are solely responsible for all expenses not specifically included in the program fee. Examples of excluded expenses are: International airfare, passport fees, any recommended immunizations or vaccinations, baggage insurance, trip cancellation insurance above $2,000 lifetime coverage, beverages at most group meals, gratuities to housekeeping staff, laundry, dry cleaning, phone charges, room service or other items of a personal nature, expenses incurred during free time or non-group activities, lunch and dinner, unless specifically included on program itinerary.

The tour is limited to 25 patrons.

Payment Schedule
This schedule is based on payments St. Olaf College must make to program vendors to guarantee group rates. We highly recommend that you purchase trip cancellation insurance within 7 days of registering to recover your payments should you need to withdraw from the program.

Deposit due:                       $800 upon registration
Refund:                                $600 until October 31, 2018

2nd payment due:             $4,000 by November 1, 2018
Refund:                                 $1,500 of this payment until February 28, 2019

Final payment due:           March 1, 2019
Refund:                                None, unless the program is full and your place can be resold

Cancellations must be in writing.

Travel Insurance
Limited travel insurance is included with your program fee. Please see full information here. Note that pre-departure trip cancellation coverage is provided up to $2,000 and only for the traveler’s medical reasons, excluding pre-existing conditions. If you are interested in additional trip cancellation coverage, check your credit card’s travel benefits. Some credit card companies offer insurance on baggage loss, travel accidents, trip cancellation and medical and/or legal assistance when the travel is purchased with that credit card. Or, St. Olaf recommends purchasing additional insurance to cover these possibilities. A web search for “trip cancellation insurance” will return many options. Be aware that some insurance providers will not refund your premium if St. Olaf cancels the program, but will apply it to future travel. You should question providers thoroughly about refunds.
