Returning Student Housing Selection Process (2024-25)

​​Gender is assigned to floors and rooms.  We have gender-inclusive rooms available in room selection. Designated pods in Ytterboe and Triple Suites and Quads (one large room) in Rand Hall and all of the New Hall and Townhouses.

There will not be a stand alone single selection day at this time.  We anticipate that the only singles that will be available will be part of the group process (Townhouses, suites and pods).

• Singles will cost an additional $750/semester than other rooms on campus!

Requires 3 students of the same gender in a group to participate.  Rooms designated as triples will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts. in Larson, Mellby, Thorson

Rand is the only residence hall with triple suites

​​The Triple Suite draw requires three students. Each triple suite consists of double room and single room connected by a bathroom. At the time a triple suite is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. Rooms designated as triple suites will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts. The beds in triple suites must stay in the designated rooms. There cannot be a room for all of the beds and a room as a living area. Important for students rooms with a vacancy: In the case of a vacancy in a room the remaining roommate(s) will be made aware of options for filling the vacancy.

Requires 4 students of the same gender (except in Rand) in a group to participate. Rooms designated as quads will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts in Mellby, Rand, Thorson

Each quad suite consists of two double rooms connected by a bathroom. At the time a Quad Suite is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. Rooms designated as quad suites will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts. The beds in Quad Suites must stay in the designated rooms. There cannot be a room for all of the beds and a room as a living area. Important for students rooms with a vacancy: In the case of a vacancy in a room the remaining roommate(s) will be made aware of  options for filling the vacancy.

​​Requires four students. This is a designed quad consisting of two double rooms. There is one designed quad in Ytterboe. At the time a Ytterboe quad is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. There in only one quad in the building – pod 078.

Not available for 2024-2025

Requires 5 students of the same gender. A general quint consists of one double room and one triple connected by a bathroom. At the time a quint is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. Rooms designated as quint will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts.

​​Requires five students. There are two designed quints located in Ytterboe. A designed quint is composed of two double rooms and one single room.  At the time a Ytterboe quint is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. There are two of this option in the building – pods 110 and 178.

​​Requires 6 students of the same gender. Each Sextet consists of three doubles located next to each other on the same hallway. At the time a Sextet is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated. Rooms cannot be designated as “sleeping rooms” and “living rooms.” All rooms must keep their original number of beds and furniture in the rooms. Rooms designated as part of a Sextet will be indicated on the Room Designation Charts.

​​Requires 10 students.  A dectet is composed of four doubles and two singles. At the time a dectet is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated.

Requires 12 students.  A duodectet is composted of two triples, two doubles, and two single rooms in a pod.  At the time a duodectet is selected, the individual room assignment of each student must be indicated.

The person that is assigned to log in and confirm the room type for your roommate group will be given a confirmation that your pair/group has received that room.

• Select “Residence Life” from the left-hand menu bar
• Select “Room Selection” from the left-hand menu bar
• Select “Select a Room/Suite” from the menu options

Selection numbers are based on the average of the entire group. The classification is based on your anticipated graduation year that place you in the category, not the number of years (or academic semesters) you have been at St. Olaf.  Each academic class will fall within the following groupings:

• Seniors 1,000s
• Juniors 3,000s
• Sophomores 5,000s

Students studying abroad during Fall semester should not participate in Room Selection.  Students abroad in the fall will follow a separate process when they return for January or Spring terms, and will be contacted at a later date about their plans.  Please submit the College Program Form. 

Who should complete this form?
Do not complete this form if you are only going to be absent during the Interim (January).

1. I will participate in Study Abroad
2. I will be away for one Semester on a special project
3. I will Graduate in the Fall/Interim
   

You have many different housing options listed above. You can view specific floor plans and pictures for some room types by selecting the Residence Hall in the menu bar.

There are gender inclusive options in the New Hall, Rand, the Townhouses and Ytterboe.

Occasionally, a student might require certain accommodations to ensure accessibility of on-campus housing, such a residence hall with an elevator; ground-level entry; or a room in close proximity to the bathroom.

• Current Students: Requests for fall of the next academic year should be submitted to DAC by March 1st.

• Incoming First-Year Students: Requests for fall of the next academic year should be submitted by June 1st.
