Read about How Flu Spreads from person to person, and then Follow the Recommendations Below:
- Wash Your Hands Frequently!! Keeping hands clean is an important step you can take to avoid getting sick and spreading germs to others.
– Wash your hands with soap and clean running water for 20 seconds (about as long as it takes to hum “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star”).
– If soap and clean water are not available then use an alcohol-based product to clean your hands. Personal-size bottles of hand sanitizer can be purchased at the STO Bookstore.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick (the CDC recommends a distance of 6′). The most common way of becoming infected is inhaling virus particles from a contagious, coughing person.
- Cover your Cough. Besides the fact that it is simply polite, this is the most effective method to lessen the chance of infecting another person.
– Watch this short, amusing, and informative video on the proper way to cough/sneeze: Why Don’t We Do It in Our Sleeves. - Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth since germs spread easily this way.
- Carefully clean frequently used surfaces: Visit this link to learn how to properly clean surfaces (doorknobs, desktops, keyboards, countertops etc.).
