Read & Write (R&W) Basics
Read and Write is an assistive technology software that provides a variety of helpful tools for academia. Its primary function is its text-to-speech program that can read text from your computer aloud from a variety of webpages, pdfs, and documents. You can read along with this program, as it will highlight the text it is reading.
Watch the videos below or read the written summaries for a guide on how to install and use R&W on windows and mac computers, as well as its google chrome version. You may also find more tips and tricks, and FAQs below.
You can also visit texthelp’s Read & Write page, or our troubleshooting page for more information or troubleshooting.

The R&W chrome extension works best with most chrome websites, and most google drive files (works best with google documents). Using R&W chrome on pdfs is not recommended. Instead, you should install the Mac or Windows software directly onto your device.
If you are having issues getting the extension to show up, you can view our troubleshooting page, or contact DAC for help.
