I’ve never submitted a class note in 43 years. I’m retired and live in San Francisco. I am doing what many of you may be doing … estate planning. I have a bit saved and may not run through everything by the time I die. So what to do with what remains?
I’ve decided I want to include St. Olaf. However, since I am not Norwegian-American, I do not want to endow a chair for lefse and lutefisk, or a fund in the music department for composing settings of “Um Yah Yah.”
What I have decided is I’d like to leave St. Olaf something for the endowment that will promote academic excellence. I don’t see any other reason for the college to exist other than to send graduates out into the world with the best possible intellectual and moral (and spiritual) equipment. You and I know what the world is like out here…
I’m not quite sure how to do that. How would a St. Olaf endowment promote academic excellence?
If any of you have been considering the same issues while planning your estate, I’d enjoy hearing from you. My email is: bradfordlwilson@yahoo.com.
Fram Fram!
