Dr. Paul Benson has been named Director of the National Endowment for the Humanities’ Institute, entitled “Slavery in the American Republic”, at the Library of Congress July 2015. Paul was one of the St. Olaf students teaching in Freedom Schools in Alabama with the 1965 Tuskegee Institute Summer Education Program, where he first took an interest in the subject of American slavery.
