Elijah Johnson

Hi! My name is Elijah Johnson. My Pronouns are He/Him/His, and I am a Ugandan and Black American student from Minneapolis, MN. While in High School I went to the Student Diversity Leadership Conference and learned about the importance of representation and how encouraging having not just professionals, but also peers that have similar experiences to you based on various forms of intersectional oppression is important. I noticed a lack of black representation in the STEM field, which has driven me to help increase BIPOC diversity. I aspire to be a leader in the STEM field, and provide opportunities and mentorship for underrepresented students that will come after me because of my passion for equity and inclusivity. As a member of the NSM Student Action Team, I wish to be a voice and guide for underprivileged St. Olaf students that are discouraged from pursuing their careers in STEM because there are few success stories. Providing opportunity with grace for failure that will aid in future achievements is very important for making St Olaf more equitable for BIPOC students.
