Nima Dahir

I’m Nima! My pronouns are she/her, and I am a Somali-American born and raised in Rochester, Minnesota. Before college, I grew up in a town with the #1 hospital in the world, where everyone worked in healthcare, and while that piqued my interest, I knew I didn’t want to be a doctor or a nurse. So when I chose Computer Science at St. Olaf, I decided to take a leap of faith by trying something new and later discovered that there is so much overlap between tech and just about anything, and that is how I discovered bio/med tech, allowing me to explore the intersection between both, which is something I really admire about STEM. Along with that, coming from a marginalized community and growing up in a low-income family, seeing a woman of color in STEM was not a representation I had through my youth, and it is still something a lot of today’s youth are facing as well. So I hope to be able to bridge that gap and be an inspiration to a lot of the other people who didn’t see that representation growing up, that it is still possible! Through the NSM Action Team, I hope to be able to break the barrier and also create a community outside of just being technical and academic, but also social and communicative with each other!
