1) Foundation Courses
Biomolecular Science concentrators must complete the following core courses:
Biology 150: Evolutionary Foundations of Biodiversity
Biology 227: Cell Biology
Biology 233: Intermediate Genetics
Chemistry 125: Structural Chemistry and Equilibrium -OR- Chemistry 122: Introductory Chemistry
Chemistry 126: Chemical Reactions
Chemistry 247/253 and 248/254: Organic Chemistry and Synthesis Laboratory
Chemistry 379/373: Biochemistry I and Laboratory Research in Biochemistry
2) Advanced Electives
Students must select at least two level III electives from a set of approved courses including:
Biology 315: Principles of Bioinformatics
Biology 324: Evolutionary Genetics
Biology 347: BioChemistry of Adaptation
Biology 364: Molecular Biology
Biology 372: Developmental Biology
Biology 382: Immunology
Biology 383: Evolutionary Biology
Biology 391: Selected Topics in Biology (when appropriate, by petition)
Chemistry 360: Medicinal Chemistry
Chemistry 384: Bioanalytical Chemistry
Chemistry 385: Biochemistry II
Chemistry 391: Selected Topics in Chemistry (when appropriate, by petition)
Computer Science 315: Bioinformatics
Other 300-level courses may be allowed only after Biomolecular Science committee review.
3) Experiential Learning Component
Participation in an experimentally-based research experience or employment that takes biomolecular sciences beyond the traditional classroom is required of each concentrator. This can occur either on or off campus. This activity must be approved by the Biomolecular Science Director and presented to the Biomolecular Science Community at the annual Biomolecular Science research Symposium.
The following form is to be submitted by the fall of your senior year, Student Plan for Experiential Learning Component (ELC) .
