A Doll's House

October 18 @ 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

The St. Olaf Theater Department is inviting the community to enjoy the play A Dolls House.

Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House premiered in Denmark in 1879, and has since gone on to become one of the most produced plays in and around the world. An exploration of women’s roles and societal expectations in the 19th century, the play continues to resonate with audiences today. In this contemporary adaptation, by American playwright Amy Herzog, Ibsen’s language is updated for the 21st century, and the plot of the play moves swiftly in engulfing the marriage of Nora and Torvald Helmer in a tangle of lies, deception and unrequited desires. The 2023 Broadway production of Herzog’s adaptation featured Jessica Chastain as Nora, who won a Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play, and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Play. This production includes profanity and references to suicide.
