All are welcome to attend “Beethoven, Beyoncé, and the Long History of Sampling” by Professor Louis Epstein.
Besides great hair, what do Beethoven and Beyoncé have in common? Both came to dominate their musical worlds by refashioning existing sounds into fresh hits. In this entertaining talk, Associate Professor of Music and Music Department Chair Louis Epstein reveals how great artists balance the familiar and the original as they seek to create meaningful music for their audiences. As Epstein shares with the students who take his popular Introduction to Musicology class, Beethoven and Beyoncé do more than captivate us with their art; they also offer a masterclass in how to thrive in college and beyond.
