The St. Olaf Orchestra, St. Olaf Choir, and St. Olaf Band present their commencement concert.
The St. Olaf Orchestra, conducted by Steven Amundson, is widely recognized as one of the finest undergraduate orchestras in the United States. The 92-member orchestra has been featured on NPR and PBS and was the 2013 winner of the the American Prize in Orchestral Performance.
The St. Olaf Choir, conducted by Anton Armstrong ’78, is the premier a cappella choir in the United States. For over a century, the choir has set a standard of choral excellence and remained at the forefront of choral artistry. Conducted since 1990 by Anton Armstrong, the St. Olaf Choir continues to develop the tradition that originated with its founder, F. Melius Christiansen.
The St. Olaf Band, conducted by Timothy Mahr ’78, was founded in 1891, is the St. Olaf Band is the oldest music organization at St. Olaf College. The band has toured nationally since 1904 and internationally since 1906, when it performed a four-week, 30-concert tour of Norway, making it the first American collegiate band to tour Europe. The band has subsequently toured several times in Norway, Great Britain, Japan, central Europe, and in 2018, Australia and New Zealand.
