About the speaker:

Atheendar Venkataramani is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medical Ethics and Health Policy and a staff physician at the Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Dr. Venkataramani is a health economist who studies the life-course origins of health and socioeconomic inequality. He researches the relationship between economic opportunities and health behaviors and outcomes; how early life interventions shape well-being over the life course; and how social policies can have spillover impacts on health outcomes. His research, which combines insights from economics, epidemiology, and clinical medicine, spans both domestic and international settings. Dr. Venkataramani’s work has been published in leading academic journals, such as JAMA, The New England Journal of Medicine, and The Lancet, and has been covered widely in media outlets, including The New York Times, Fox News, and the Washington Post. In 2021, he was awarded the Milbank Quarterly Early Career Award in Population Health by the Interdisciplinary Association of Population Health Science (IAPHS).

Dr. Venkataramani completed his MD at Washington University, his PhD in Health Policy (Economics) and Yale University, and his BS in Biology and Economics at Duke University. He completed a residency in Internal Medicine–Global Primary Care at the Massachusetts General Hospital.
