Ken Abrams is a professor from Carleton College who will come to St. Olaf to speak to students and community members about post traumatic stress disorder prevention, particularly for high risk individuals. Quoted from Ken: “We’re using virtual reality to expose participants to frightening scenarios and then attempting to interfere with the consolidation of the frightening memories (using visuospatial tasks). The primary outcome measure is number of intrusive memories (parallel to flashbacks) over the ensuing week.” He may also include from information from his research on cross-cultural psychopathology.
The event will consist of a presentation from Ken, followed by time for group discussion and a Q and A.
